History

Davie County ranks 12th smallest geographic county in North Carolina with approximately 35,000 residents and with a total area of 267 square miles it has a lot of amenities to offer. Davie County was formed from a portion of Rowan County in 1836. The county was named Davie in honor of William R. Davie, a Revolutionary War Leader, Governor of North Carolina, and a leader in the founding of the University of North Carolina.

A small village centrally located on the main north/south and east/west routes of travel in North Carolina named "Mocks Old Field" existed before the American Revolution. This village was used frequently as a secret meeting place for Colonial forces and planners, some of whom were family members of Davie County's most famous resident, Daniel Boone. Mocksville was incorporated in 1839. With today's population of approximately 4,200, Mocksville is the county seat and Davie's largest town. Other incorporated towns in the county are Cooleemee & Bermuda Run . Unincorporated towns include Advance , Cornatzer , Farmington , and Hillsdale.

Yadkin County Named for the river that marks its northern and eastern boundaries, Yadkin County was formed in 1850 from parts of adjacent Surry County. Raffaldini Vineyard The current population stands at 36,348 and continues to grow. Yadkinville the County Seat, was formed in 1857 and has a current population of around 2,800.The Indians in this area for the most part were peaceful farmers. Fruits, game, and fish were plentiful. Some of the fish-falls constructed by the Indians may still be found on the Yadkin River. Other suburban towns in Yadkin County include Boonville, East Bend, and Jonesville.

Thousands gather throughout the year to attend community fairs, festivals and events like the Daniel Boone Festival in the spring, the Fireworks in the Park on the 4th of July, the Historic Masonic Picnic in the summer; the Textile Heritage Festival in Cooleemee during the fall; and a Hometown Christmas celebration in the winter.

For the art lover in you, the Brock Performing Arts Center offers live performances and programs for the whole family. Nestled in Historic Downtown Mocksville is Davie County's only amphitheatre, Junker's Mill that hosts numerous events throughout the year including music venues and festivals.

Originally a farming community, Yadkin County’s flue cured tobacco was the major cash crop . As tobacco use declines, production of other crops continues to increase. Vineyards are now producing grapes to be used in winemaking. The first winery opened in 2000, and currently Yadkin County is home to 14 producing wineries, the largest concentration in the state of North Carolina. The Yadkin Valley Wine Region was the first and remains the largest Federally designated wine producing region, or appellation, in North Carolina. While it began as an agricultural center and remains primarily rural in character, today the county combines a farming economy with growing industrial development. Continuing county improvements include two brand new middle schools, and a new 140 acre reservoir on Deep Creek that will provide a future water source and recreational opportunities. The Yadkin Cultural Arts Center opened in downtown Yadkinville in 2010 with monthly shows and exhibits.
