Alamance County
History
Alamance County, North Carolina is lcentrally located about 20 miles east of Greensboro. The county has a land area of 428 square miles and estimated population of 136,000 (2009). Alamance County is located in the heartland of North Carolina between the mountains and the coast. This county offers rich history, exciting cultural attractions, great shopping and recreation activities that include some of the state's best golf courses and river rafting. The largest industry that drove the county's economy was situated along the banks of its many waterways, especially the Haw River. Throughout the county, textile and other mills sprang up, providing a source of employment for the people and a place for farmers to sell or process their crops. Mills and textiles continued to provide jobs and fuel for the Alamance economy. The Haw River Watershed itself was home to over 65 mills in Alamance County alone, and this number does not include mills that were not built on creeks. These mills provided the lifeblood of the Alamance County economy for well over a century. In 1889, the North Carolina Legislature issued a charter for the founding of a new college to be called "Elon College". Today, Elon University is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States.
Lifestyle
The predominant urban area of Alamance County is the city of Burlington. There are many reminders of its rich history throughout the City and surrounding area. Among these, to name a few, are: The Depot –Built in the mid-1800s, the Depot was the hub of activity during the heyday of rail travel, it now serves as a meeting place for community groups and a site for special events and outdoor concerts. The Burlington Historic District –a cross section of 20th century residential architecture, consisting of Colonial Revival, Victorian, American Four Square, and many other architectural styles of the period. Carousel is located in City Park and completely restored to its original beauty. Other places of interest might include a visit to Alamance Battleground and Museum, The Paramount Theatre, orLake Mackintosh.
County parks throughout the area provide a wide variety of outdoor cultural and sporting events and activities. The Haw River Wine Trail is an enjoyable way to spend a day in the country. Alamance County is home to suburban cities including the Village of Alamance, Graham, Mebane, Elon , Gibsonville , Green Level , Haw River, Snow Camp , and Swepsonville.

Orange County

History
Orange County encompasses 400 square miles of rolling farms and forest, vital urban centers and small towns combining the best of cosmopolitan and rural lifestyles with an abundance of historical, social and cultural resources. With an estimated population of 130,000 Orange County is located between the Research Triangle Park and the Triad cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. Orange County includes historic Hillsborough, the county seat; Chapel Hill, home of the University of North Carolina; and Carrboro and Mebane, former railroad and mill towns. Hillsborough was the center of North Carolina politics in the colonial era and hosted the state's Constitutional Convention in 1778. In 1789, the North Carolina General Assembly chartered the University of North Carolina, the nation's first state university to admit undergraduates. Orange County lies on the western edge of the Research Triangle, an area anchored on three sides by UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. State University and Duke University. At the region’s center is Research Triangle Park, home to leading technological companies and federal research institutions, including IBM, 
GlaxoSmithKlein, Cisco, RTI International, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Chapel Hill is inextricably linked to the University, the Town was, in fact, was created to serve the University. While recognizing that the Town has moved beyond its sole identity with the University, this association will always remain essential to the identity of Chapel Hill—not only as a prime employer, but as the focus of Town activities that range from learning and the free exchange of ideas, to the wide variety of athletic and cultural programs it sponsors. Hillsborough is a small town with a big history. The downtown historic district — listed on the National Register of Historic Places — features more than 100 homes, churches and buildings from the late 18th and 19th centuries. Today, Hillsborough is a tourist and permanent destination and a haven for artists and writers. Barbecue lovers descend on the town each June for the annual Hog Day, and the downtown comes alive Friday evenings with arts and entertainment the last Friday of each month during warm weather. In addition to Revolutionary War reenactments and guided tours of the historic district, Hillsborough is home to Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area and several other trails.Carrboro is a cozy town with an absence of parking meters and a reputation for a terrific farmers market. The town, commonly referred to as the “Paris of the Piedmont” takes pride in being known as a community rich in cultural and economic diversity.
